update 10.21.16: I am able to create svgs in Adobe Illustrator 5.5.1 again, but there definitely has been a loss of features here and there. I will continue to use it until it no longer is compatible with my system (another reason not to upgrade to OSX Sierra, just in case such surprises occur). At the present time there is nothing else out there to compare with it, that’s for sure: I have checked out the “competition”. But who knows what the future will bring?
I have been using Adobe products since 2001 and love them. However, I do NOT love the fact that we no longer can buy packages but must subscribe to Adobe Creative Cloud. I held off switching over and clung to Creative Suite 5.5 until it no longer would work properly. Last night I installed the latest OSX El Capitan Security update to find out this morning that my Adobe Illustrator no longer supported the proper creation of .svg files. Yesterday, before my update install, that was NOT the case. Today I started looking into alternatives.
Just as I no longer buy digital music/products because they really will never be “mine” (when I die I can’t pass virtually any of them on to anyone), I refuse to use a product that I must subscribe to in perpetuity in order to access my work! So for now, bye bye to Adobe Illustrator. However, I am already looking into alternatives to Photoshop and other Adobe components. Can’t they have TWO options? Subscription AND outright purchase? It’s really the worst form of hijacking. They will regret that move in the long run.
My latest OSX update: Security update 2016-001.
